Princesas competes in Sundance

Princesas by Fernando León de Aranoa and Madeinusa by Claudia Llosa will screen in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the forthcoming Sundance Film Festival (19 – 22 January). Also in the same festival, a worldwide reference when it comes to independent film, Isabel Coixet's The secret life of words [+see also:

is part of the North American Premiere sidebar section, while Cargo by Clive Gordon opens in the section World Premiere.

Produced bt Reposado PC and MediaPro, Princesas is the last work by Fernando León de Aranoa, who directed the internationally acclaimed Mondays on the sun [+see also:

(2002). Having plunged into the world of a group of unemployed men from Galicia, Aranoa now portrays the life of two young prostitutes played by Candela Peña (All about my mother) and newcomer Micaela Nevárez. Released in Spain on the 2nd of September, Princesas was seen by 1.160.000 people.

Also present in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition is Madeinusa, Peruvian filmmaker living in Barcelona Claudia Llosa filmed in her home country. The film is a Spanish majority co production (Wanda Vision et Oberon Cinematografica) with Peru (Vela Producciones), filmed in the Andes and post produced in Catalonia.

Screened at the last Venice Film Festival and premiered in Spain on the 21st of October, The secret life of words is an El Deseo production which marks the return of Isabel Coixet to her favourite genre, the melodrama, two years after My life without me [+see also:

. Its presentation in the North American Premiere section opens the doors of the United States to this film starring Academy Award winner Tim Robbins and Canadian actress Sarah Polley.

Finally, Cargo by Clive Gordon (Lost Boys - 2002) is part of the World Premiere section. Starring Peter Mullan, Daniel Brülh and Luis Tosar, the film is set in a cargo ship travelling from Europe to Africa. Thriller written by Paul Alberti, Cargo is produced by Morena Films, Oberon Cinematografica, Vaca Films and Slate Films (UK).
