£700,000 P&A support to 19 films

The UK Film Council has invested a total of £700,000 (€1m) of lottery money so far this year in P&A (print and advertising) support to 19 arthouse feature and documentary films to help them expand their theatrical release.

The biggest amount (£150,000/€216,900) went to Momentum Pictures to double the print run of Gavin Hood’s UK/South African drama Tsotsi [+see also:

, which has now grossed over €847,412 in three weeks on 69 screens.

Tartan Films was awarded €249,000 to double the prints and digital copies of John Hillcoat’s The Proposition [+see also:

, which has grossed €896,810 in four weeks. Tartan’s April 21 release of South African musical U-Carmen e-Khayelitsha was awarded €15,477.

, released late January by Artificial Eye, was the first film in the history of the UK FC P&A Fund to receive an award (€36,156) after its release. It is now one of the biggest theatrical successes in the UK for a foreign language film, having pulled in over €1.4m.

Revolver Entertainment, with its €100,190 in support, was able to produce an extra 20 prints and increase its advertising budget for the promotion of UK film Kidulthood, which has taken €621,093 in five weeks. Revolver’s release of Werner Herzog’s documentary Grizzly Man on February 3 was awarded €13,997.

; to Maiden Voyage Pictures (€144,647) for next week’s release of UK thriller Rollin’ With the Nines; to Verve Pictures (€20,975) for the May 5 release of UK film Love + Hate; and to Yume Distribution (€19,579) for the May 12 release of Quo Vadis Baby? by Gabriele Salvatores.
