In explaining the reasons for their choice, the jury said: "Retrieval is set in a society where the power of money and violence seem to constitute an irresistible attraction. The film shows that happiness cannot be attained by such means. At the end of the film, having lost everything except his dignity, the hero finds the courage to risk his life to return to those who love him."
