Paris Project in the spotlight

Nine foreign productions seeking additional funding will be presented to French film industry professionals (producers, international sales agents, distributors and TV broadcasters) at the 4th edition of the Paris Project co-production workshops (July 3-4) as part of the Paris Cinéma festival that kicks off tomorrow (see news).

This year, five European co-productions are among the films selected at the event organised in association with Rotterdam’s CineMart, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE), the Cannes Film Festival Producers Network and the Ateliers du Cinéma Européen (ACE).

Spanish production outfit A Contraluz Films will present its €8m thriller The Art of Murder (Clara y la penumbra). Co-produced by Polish outfit Gremi Film, this screen adaptation of a novel by José Carlos Somoza set in 2011 is the story of the "hyperdramatic painting" of bodies and the murder of two models, with the key to the mysteries hidden in destroyed paintings.

Meanwhile, Italian outfit FARout Films expects to do well with Jash - The Traitor by Iranian director Fariborz Kamkari, while Germany’s Studio 99 are still looking for partners for Keep Smiling! by Rusudan Chkonia, the story of six mothers of large families trying to win a beauty contest.

Meanwhile, Love & Other Crimes by Serbian director Stefan Arsenijevic, shooting of which is set to begin this winter has already received €410,000 of the €1.2m sum granted through a co-production agreement between German outfits Icon Film, Art & Popcorn (director’s company) and Slovenian outfit Studio Arkadena .

Also on the Paris Project menu are Tango Bar by Argentina’s German Kral from German outfit Wolfgang Latteyer Filmproduktion and A Mexican Story by Moldova’s Artur Aristakisian, a Mexican/Russian co-production headed by NoDream Cinema, the production company of director Carlos Reygadas.
