MakeFilmsNotWar: Beirut Festival returns

by

After a three-year break and despite the dramatic situation of the city and entire country, the Beirut International Film Festival is returning, from October 4-11, to the Lebanese capital.

The programme of the festival’s seventh edition will be presented on Monday, September 4, at 6 p.m., at the Palazzo del Casinò, during the 63rd Venice Film Festival.

The director and president of the Beirut festival Colette Naufal and Alice Edde, respectively, will be present along with Biennale President Davide Croff and Venice’s Artistic Director Marco Müller.

Naufal, who has directed the Beirut Film Festival since 1997 and in 2003 founded the Beirut Film Foundation, announced that the "members of the international film community are coming together to sign a statement of solidarity with the next edition of the Beirut International Film Festival. The statement will mark the launching of the peace campaign MakeFilmsNotWar, which after Venice will continue to promote a dialogue with the world and respect for human rights, rather than hate, oppression and war".
