Swiss titles conquer Sundance and San Francisco

Four Swiss films feature at US film festivals this January. First up is Fraulein [+see also:

(Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion), which will be presented in competition at the 23rd Sundance International Film Festival, taking place from January 18-28 in Park City.

The debut feature directed by Andrea Staka, winner of Locarno’s Golden Leopard and two awards at Sarajevo, will be screened in the Spectrum sidebar.

First unveiled last year along with three other Swiss documentaries at Sundance, Heidi Specogna’s The Short Life of José Antonio Gutierrez (PS Film) will screen in San Francisco at the 12th Berlin & Beyond Festival (January 11-17).

A showcase for German cinema organised by the Goethe Institut, the annual event will also feature ’s My Name is Eugen [+see also:

(C-Films, Kontraproduktion) – the most popular domestic title at the Swiss box office in 2006 – and Going Private by Stina Werenfels (Dschoint Ventschr).

While My Name is Eugen was nominated Best Fiction Film at the 2006 Swiss Film Awards, three other Swiss titles will compete at the 2007 event: Fraulein (in the Best Fiction and Best Screenplay categories), The Short Life... (Best Documentary) and Going Private (for scriptwriters and acting duo Michael Neuenschwander and Leonardo Nigro). The ceremony will take place on January 24 as part of the 42nd Solothurn Film Days, which is dedicated to local productions.
