Not only did the film win in all four top categories in which it was nominated – Best Film, Director, Screenplay (Gustavsson and Jans Renhäll) and Lead Actor (this year’s Shooting Star Gustaf Skarsgård) – it also took another Guldbagge for Best Sound Engineering, Mixing and Original Score and Edfeldt won a special Gullspira award for her special contribution to children’s films.

However, the other two feature films that were equally nominated, Jesper Ganslandt’s Farewell Falkenberg [+see also:

and Anders Nilsson’s When Darkness Falls, went home empty-handed.

Kidz in da Hood was produced by Peter Holthausen and Pontus Sjöman for Gilda Film in cooperation with Sonet Film, Sandrew Metronome, TV3, Break Even and Filmhaus, with support from the Swedish Film Institute. The musical film about a young illegal immigrant who finds an unconventional foster father in a musician will screen in competition at Berlin’s Generation KPlus section next February and will have its market premiere at the European Film Market under Trust Film Sales’s flagship.

Haddy Jallow, the 20 year-old Gambian beauty living in Stockholm, was voted Best Actress for her performance in Daniel Fridell’s Say That You Love Me, and Best Foreign Language Film went to German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Lives of Others [+see also:

(see focus).

Lastly, the new Audience award, for which some 88,000 Swedish people voted, was handed out to star actor and producer Michael Nyqvist for Johan Brisinger’s box office hit Underbara Älskade (Wonderful Beloved), which has garnered over 80,000 admissions so far since its December release through Sonet Distribution.
