by Mathieu Loewer
12/02/2007 - Winner of the 2007 Swiss Film Prize, Fredi M. Murer’s Vitus [trailer, film focus] (Hugofilm, see Focus) has been awarded Best Feature at the 3rd Strasbourg Augenblick Festival.
Two other Swiss films also screened in competition, Michael Steiner’s My Name is Eugen [trailer] (C-Films, Kontraproduktion) and Manuel Flurin Hendry’s Strähl (Dschoint Ventschr).
This prize will be used for the film’s French theatrical release through Océan Films. A showcase for German-speaking productions from Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland, the Alsatian festival aims to be a bridge between different linguistic zones.
Meanwhile, the Institut Lumière de Lyon has also been paying homage to the director with a retrospective that began in January and is being presented as part of La belle voisine, an invitation from the city of Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region to celebrate contemporary Swiss creativity. The event ends on March 31.
