Day out for EU 27 on big screen

09/05/2007 - The third edition of Eurociné, an event supported by the Brussels Region, the MEDIA Programme and the European Commission, is today hosting a celebration of European cinema. This year’s edition marks two special occasions: Eurociné 25 has now become Eurociné 27 and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

Along with Brussels (where Eurociné began), Lyon and Strasbourg, three new European capitals will be hosting the event this year – Paris, Rome and Madrid. The public can choose from 27 films each representing an EU country, which are screening in UGC theatres.

"It’s an honour and pride for EuroCiné 27 to host the new film by Czech master director Milos Forman, who, after having taken the US film world by storm with Hair and the unforgettable One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, is now back in Europe to give the most famous Spanish painter, Goya, the face of Sweden’s Stellan Skarsgård!” said Philippe Reynaert, director of Wallimage [trailer] and president of Eurociné 27.

A unique occasion to see recent European productions, Eurociné is screening all films four times. In total, almost 650 screenings will give audiences a chance to discover the wealth of European cinema.

In addition to the highly anticipated Goya’s Ghosts [trailer], Eurociné’s programme includes films from the furthest flung regions of the continent: Jade Warrior [trailer] (Finland), White Palms [trailer, film focus] (Hungary), Allegro [trailer] (Denmark), as well as Cypricot title Akamas by Panicos Chrysanthou, domestic hit 186 kilometres [trailer] by Estonian directors Andres Maimik and Rain Tolk and Hostage [trailer] (Greece).
