The former head of the Estonian Film Foundation and current director of the Baltic Event/Co-production Market in Tallinn, Sildos is one of Estonia’s most entrepreneurial producers, with an enviable track record. Since setting up her own company Amrion in 2003, she offered local audiences their favourite domestic film in 2005 (Rene Vilbre’s Mat the Cat) and in 2006 (the animated Lotte From Gadgetville, which sold to over 15 territories).

Class, screening on May 17 and May 23, is the only new Estonian film offered at the Cannes market, with Magnus selected in Un Certain Regard. Class marks the directorial debut of Raag (39), who has held various positions in the Estonian film and television industries and currently sits as Estonia’s representative at Eurimages.

Class is a youth drama about school violence, about the struggle for survival”, said Riina Sildos. Released domestically late March, the film is currently the fourth biggest success of 2007.

Riina Sildos is also going to look for international co-producers on Raag’s next project, One More Croissant, and will discuss René Vilbre’s upcoming film, I Was Here, First Arrest, a co-production with Finland’s Helsinki Filmi. Based on a best-selling youth novel, the project will start shooting next September.

As for Lotte, the friendly animated dog will soon start on new adventures thanks to the same creative team of directors Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits, who co-wrote the script with Heiki Ernits.
