Jade Warrior and Star Wreck makers unite

17/05/2007 - Blind Spot Pictures, one of the leading Finnish production houses and co-production partners on Jade Warrior [trailer], has teamed up with the makers of the Finnish spoof sci-fi phenomenon Star Wreck to produce Iron Sky, a comedy about Nazis on the dark side of the moon.
Presented today as a teaser at www.ironsky.net, the project is described by its young director Timo Vuorensola as a “pitch black science-fiction comedy with massive visuals, a clever plot and a subtle and stylish narrative. Finns may seem to outsiders like gruff and humourless folk, but many miss the vast treasury of sarcastic and morbid humour that is the cornerstone of our culture. The humour of Iron Sky is based on these elements – with a hefty seasoning of the absurdity of Monty Python”.
The English-language project written by Johanna Sinisalo will be produced by Blind Spot’s Tero Kaukomaa and Petri Jokiranta (A Man’s Job [trailer]) with Energia Poductions, the company behind Vuorensola’s Star Wreck.
Seven years in the making by five friends and movie fans from Tampere, Star Wreck was one of the very first films made for free download on the Internet. The no-budget film was eventually seen by four million people last autumn, making it the most watched Finnish film ever. Distributed worldwide on various TV channels (from YLE in Finland to Canal Jimmy in Italy), the film is released on DVD across the Nordic territories by Universal Pictures.
