The film is based on the popular children's book series Lilli the Witch, whose adventures were made into a television series that attracted half a million viewers. Hexe Lilli – scripted by Ruzowitzky, Ralph Martin and Armin Toerkell – will combine filmed and synthesised images.

Drache Hektor (to whom comedy star Michael Mittermeier has agreed to lend his voice) will appear in the form of a animated character alongside real actresses who will play the witches: Alina Freund, Anja Kling, Ingo Naujoks and Spain's Pilar Bardem.

Filming on the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and FFF Bavaria financed project will continue until August 9 in the Berlin-Babelsberg studios in Postdam and near Vienna. The film is expected to be ready by mid 2008.
