After an official competition screening at Rotterdam (see news), box-office success in Belgium and a journey across the channel to the Edinburgh International Festival (August 15-26), where it also screened official competition, Koen Mortier’s Ex Drummer [+see also:

film profile] will be making its North American premiere in the Vanguard section of the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (September 6-15). The title will be the only majority Belgian production to screen at the festival this year.

Dutch actress-director Tamar van den Dop will make a double appearance. She stars in the Dutch/Belgian co-production Wolfsbergen, while her directorial debut feature Blind [+see also:

film profile] (another Belgian co-production by Erwin Provoost for MMG Film & TV Production) is screening in the Discovery section.

Discovery is also hosting a second Belgian co-production, Teona Mitevska’s Macedonian film I Am From Titov Veles (see Making of), produced by Entre Chien et Loup and Climax Films, with backing from Eurimages, the Council of Europe and the Centre du Cinéma et de l'audiovisuel de la Communauté française de Belgique (€110,000).

Two of the four other Belgian co-productions heading to the Canadian festival are Scope Pictures co-production Angel [+see also:

film profile], which has been selected for the Sprockets Family Zone sidebar. The title was co-produced by Belgium’s Nexus Factory and Creative Conspiracy and co-financed by the VAF and the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Communauté française (€140,000).

Starring Olivier Gourmet, Isabelle Huppert, Mélanie Laurent and Gréta Scacchi, Alessandro Capone’s L’amour caché, presented in the Visions section, was co-produced by Tarantula Belgique and backed by the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Communauté française de Belgique (€150,000).
