Corneau and Van Sant up against comedies and animation

A strategic date before the school holidays, this Wednesday sees 11 new releases open on French screens, including seven local (co)productions. Top of the list is Alain Corneau’s The Second Wind [+see also:

, which is opening on 586 screens through its producer ARP Sélection.

Just back from the RomeFilmFest (see news), the film will be hoping to steal filmgoers from serious contenders with a cast headed by Daniel Auteuil and Monica Bellucci.

MK2 is releasing 115 prints of its production Paranoid Park [+see also:

by US director Gus Van Sant. The fascinating feature (see article) won the 6oth anniversary prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Pathé Distribution is also releasing this Wednesday, with 517 prints for Marc Esposito’s Le coeur des hommes 2 [+see also:

Starring Bernard Campan, Gérard Darmon, Marc Lavoine, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Zoé Félix and Ludmila Mikaël, the sentimental comedy (€10.2m budget, co-produced and pre-sold by – alliance rare – TF1 Films Production and France 2 Cinéma) hope to repeat the success of its first instalment (1.5m admissions in 2003).

by the directing duo Victor Maldonado - Adrian Garcia, a co-production between Spain (75.3%) and France (24.7%), which screened at the Venice Film Festival and is opening on 120 screens through Gebeka Films.

Further Gallic releases include 11 prints of Sébastien Jaudeau’s La part animale (Balthazar ProductionsSolaris Distribution) and three prints of Vladimir Léon’s documentary Le brahmane du Komintern (distribution Capricci Films).
