Export of Norwegian films booming

03/01/2008 - Export revenues of Norwegian films tripled between 2002 and 2006, to reach almost NOK20m (€2.5m), according to a recent report commissioned by the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI).
In 2006, twenty Norwegian films were released in foreign cinemas. Eight of them had an export box office of over €125,000 and 20% were represented by non-Nordic sales agents: Bavaria Film International Sales (The Bothersome Man [trailer, film focus] and Sons [trailer]), Rezo Film International Sales (Uro [trailer]) and The Works (Free Jimmy [trailer]).
Outside Scandinavia, the biggest buyers of Norwegian films are German-speaking territories and Benelux. The report is good news to Norwegian Culture Minister Trond Giske, who had set a goal for Norwegian films to double their exports by 2010 in his recent White Paper on cinema.
