Moccia takes top spot from Ridley Scott

29/01/2008 - Federico Moccia’s sentimental comedy Scusa ma ti chiamo amore [trailer] (Medusa Film) leads the box office after opening last weekend, with €4.6m grossed, according to Cinetel data.

Released on approximately 600 screens (of which Cinetel monitors only 491), the film registered a per-screen average of €9,428, over twice the that of American Gangster (Universal), number two in the top ten with a per screen average of €4,533.

Last week’s box office figures rose 4% over the previous week, to finish at €12.9m.

Italian titles topping the charts are Black and White [trailer] (01 Distribution), in seventh with €608,000 over the weekend and a total €4.2m so far; L'allenatore nel pallone 2 (Medusa) in ninth, con €456,000 (€7.3m overall since January 11); and Carlo Lizzani’s Hotel Meina (Mikado), in at 20 with €26,000 from 28 screens.

Also doing well is Abdellatif Kechiche’s French title The Secret of the Grain [trailer], released by Lucky Red on January 11 for €358,000 so far.
