Three Swiss nominees for Davids

08/04/2008 - Days and Clouds [trailer] by Italian-Swiss director Silvio Soldini is vying for honours with no less than 15 nominations for the 52nd David di Donatello Awards, whose ceremony will be held on April 18 in Rome.
Co-produced by Tessin-based Tiziana Soudani (Amka Films) and Italian Swiss broadcaster TSI, the new feature by the director of Bread and Tulips has been selected in the following categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Producer, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup (Swiss makeup artist Esmé Sciaroni), Best Hair, Best Editing and Best Sound (Switzerland’s François Musy, who won a Cesar award in 2007 for Xavier Giannoli’s The Singer [trailer]).
Days and Clouds traces the hardships of a couple who thought they were safe from financial worries. Just as Elsa (Margherita Buy) receives a university degree, having quit her job several years earlier, her husband Michele (Antonio Albanese) admits that he’s been unemployed for the past two months.
With their house up for sale and money scarce, they have must face adversity and the risk of losing one another.
Like Andrea Molaioli’s The Girl by the Lake [trailer] (15 nominations), Soldini’s feature is competing against the firm favourite: Antonello Grimaldi’s Quiet Chaos [trailer, film focus], starring Nanni Moretti (18 nominations).
