CineStar puts spotlight on local films

by

CineStar – the largest German cinema network – has decided to promote domestic productions via the initiative "Deutscher Film – Groß bei CineStar", which kicks off on October 8 in 60 theatres.

The idea is to offer a platform for German cinema due to its growth and the enthusiastic reception from audiences. CineStar director Oliver Fock commented: "German films have increased in quality and developed a potential that is also attracting greater international interest". His remarks are backed up by the fact that more and more US majors are investing in German productions.

, Die Buddenbrooks and 1½ Knights - In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde are major titles which appeal to audiences and are just as impressive as Hollywood productions".

The growing appeal of German films hailed by the CineStar initiative is very real. Domestic titles got off to a good start this year with the outstanding success of Til Schweiger’s Rabbit Without Ears, as pointed out by CineStar’s Marketing and Merchandise director Stephan Lehmann.

He continued: "A study published shortly afterwards showing that viewers are first of all drawn to US and German films reinforced our determination. The potential of local productions has until now rarely been fully exploited". The study in question also revealed that audiences are badly informed or informed too late about the release of German films, and CineStar intends to remedy this situation.
