Hollywood contract for A-Films
by Aurore Engelen
24/11/2008 - At the start of the month, A-Films signed a distribution contract with Relativity Media. This contract is the result of an international campaign launched by the US company at the American Film Market with the aim of recruiting partners across the world to ensure the theatrical release of around ten titles per year.
In Europe, agreements have been signed with Nordisk Films (Scandinavia and Iceland), Village Roadshow (Greece), Momentum (UK), MGN Films (Eastern Europe), and A-Films (Benelux).
Relativity Media – a creation, financing and distribution company – has also renewed partnership agreements with Universal Pictures, with whom it co-produces 10-15 films per year, including recent hits Mamma Mia!, The Mummy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army; and Sony Pictures. Relativity also produces comedies (including films produced by Judd Apatow), action films (such as Fast & Furious), and auteur films, including the latest title by the Coen brothers (Burn After Reading [trailer]) and Atonement [trailer].
The films to be distributed by the company’s new partners in Europe are part of its “Single Pictures” slate, and include Jim Sheridan’s forthcoming work, starring Jake Gillenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman.
Amsterdam-based A-Films operates in Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium. Created in 1999, it is the largest Dutch distribution company and its catalogue includes commercial hits and international auteur films.
A-Films is currently distributing the two Public Enemy Number One instalments. The company’s new contract with Relativity Media will involve the release of Jackie Chan and Lasse Hallström’s forthcoming films, as well as Brilliant, which is set to star Scarlett Johansson.
