For 61-year-old Edel (Zoo, Last Exit To Brooklyn), this is not his first jaunt across the Atlantic. The director has already won numerous awards and worked for film and television in the US.

His new film – based on a book by Stefan Aust about one of the most turbulent periods in recent German history – has also been chosen to represent Germany in the nomination race for the forthcoming Oscars, to which the Golden Globes are, so to speak, the prelude.

The Baader Meinhof Complex – produced by Bernd Eichinger for Munich-based Constantin Film, in co-production with Les Nouvelles Éditions de Films (Paris) and G.T. Film Production (Prague) – was released domestically on September 25 and in France on November 12. The film was well received in the US at its avant-première screenings.

International sales are being handled by Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment, who have already signed agreements with a number of key territories.
