Preliminary figures show decline in 2008

Approximately two months ahead of ICAA’s publication of the official results, Nielsen EDI has released the provisional Spanish box office figures for 2008.

Overall takings stand at €610.5m – 5.15% less than the previous financial year, when they reached €643.7m. Meanwhile, the number of admissions is 104.7m – 8.4% less than in 2007 (116.9m).

The figures seem to confirm that 2008 was not a particularly successful year for Spanish film. The list of best performing films reveals the overwhelming dominance of US titles, which claim eight of the top ten positions, conceding only eighth and tenth place to two UK co-productions: The Dark Knight and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas [+see also:
