Golden sales for Match Factory in Berlin

18/02/2009 - Cologne-based sales company The Match Factory has closed key territories on its Berlinale Golden Bear-winning film The Milk of Sorrow [trailer] and triple winner Gigante [trailer], scoring as well with Fatih Akin’s upcoming Soul Kitchen [trailer].
The Peruvian/Spanish Sorrow, by Claudia Llosa, was picked up for Norway (Arthaus), Sweden (Folkets Bio), Poland (Mañana) and the former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom). Deals are pending with Germany, France, Italy and Denmark.
Adrián Biniez’s Gigante – winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize (ex æquo), Best Debut Feature and the Alfred Bauer Award – has sold to 20 territories so far, including Germany (Neue Visionen), France (Océan), Spain (Golem), Greece (Seven One Films), Switzerland (Xenix), Denmark (Øst for Paradis), Norway (Fidalgo), the former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), Portugal (Midas), Poland (Mañana) and the Netherlands (Filmmuseum).
The Match Factory’s other Official Selection title, The Dust of Time [trailer] – directed by Theo Angelopoulos and starring Willem Dafoe – sold to Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Austria (Filmladen), the former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), the Czech Republic (Aerofilms), Romania (Independenta) and Portugal (Atalanta). It will open in Greece this week, with France, Germany, Italy and Russia to follow.
Lars Jessen’s Small-Town Punks [trailer], shown in Berlin’s Perspektive Deutsches Kino, has sold to the former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), and Andreas Dresen’s Cloud 9 [trailer] to Colombia (Cine Colombia) and Peru (Gateno Films).
Yesim Ustaoglu’s Pandora’s Box [trailer] was bought by Germany (Kairos Films), Portugal (Atalanta) and Colombia (Cine Colombia), while Götz Spielmann’s Oscar-nominated Revanche [trailer, film focus] was picked up by the Netherlands (Amstel Film).
Akin’s Soul Kitchen, shown as a promo-reel, pre-sold to Italy (BIM), Spain (Golem), Benelux (Cinéart), Switzerland (Pathé), Romania (Independenta) and Brazil (Imovision).
