Ex nears €10m, Slumdog flying high after Oscars

03/03/2009 - According to Cinetel data, Fausto Brizzi’s Ex [trailer] (01 Distribution) is in third place in last week’s box office takings with €984,513. The film will soon break the €10m mark after three weeks on release.
In at fourth is the other domestic title of the top ten, new film Iago [trailer] (Medusa), with €968,382. The latest film by Giuseppe Piccioni, The Prize [trailer] (01 Distribution) opened in 11th place with €345,103.
There are three UK titles in the top ten: Inkheart [trailer] (€926,979 - Eagle Pictures), The Reader [trailer] (€793,483 - 01 Distribution) and Slumdog Millionaire [trailer, film focus], which has grossed €681,000 – 556% more than the previous weekend – owing to its eight-Oscar win. Distributor Lucky Red has increased its print run from 63 to 159. Out since December 5, Danny Boyle’s film has so far grossed a total €4.2m.
Also out this weekend, The Wave [trailer] (BIM) from Germany took in €96,578 from 57 screens and local film The Sicilian Girl [trailer] (Istituto Luce) €63,617 from 53 screens.
