Saoirse Ronan learns to Live Now

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (Hanna [+see also:

) will star in the film adaptation of Meg Roskoff’s acclaimed novel for young adults How I Live Now. Kevin Macdonald (The Eagle) will direct.

Ronan will play Daisy, a New York teen that goes to England for the summer. She falls in love with and begins a relationship with her cousin Edmond but that is nipped in the bud when World War 3 begins. When England is taken over by hostile forces, Daisy has to take to the woods for survival.

), Tony Grisoni (Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas) and Jack Thorne (The Scouting Book For Boys [+see also:

) adapted the script from Roskoff’s novel. The novel won the Guardian Award and the Whitbread Children’s Book Of The Year in 2004.

Film4 and Cowboy Films are producing with John Battsek (The Imposter), Alasdair Flind (Fire In Babylon), Andrew Ruhermann (Project Nim [+see also:

) and Charles Steel (Marley) serving as producers.

The film is currently in pre-production with a view to a 2013 release.

Ronan is currently filming Neil Jordan’s Byzantium and will then begin work on Andrew Niccol’s The Host. Her voice will be heard in Manuel Sicilia’s animated film Justin And The Knights Of Valour.
