Rohrwacher’s Corpo Celeste first Italian title of festival

According to Italian press agency ANSA, Alice Rohrwacher’s Corpo Celeste is the first Italian film selected for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. The news was confirmed by the delegate general of the Directors’ Fortnight, Frédéric Boyer, who is busy choosing titles for the festival, which will be announced in Paris on April 14 (Competition) and April 19 (Fortnight).

Distributed by Cinecittà Luce, Corpo Celeste is the debut film of Rohrwacher, sister of actress Alba, and is set in Reggio Calabria and Roghudi, an abandoned suburb in Aspromonte. The story centres on 13-year-old Marta (Yle Vianello), who returns after growing up in Germany to live with her mother (Anita Caprioli) in Reggio Calabria, a world suspended between consumerism and ancient ruins.
