Programme objective and content:

BA in Film and Television:
Graduates of the degree programme find employment in artistic and production tasks in film and television or as audiovisual designers for theatre.
During their professional studies, the students can specialise in production, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing or sound design. In addition, the students may also take specialist studies in lighting design for theatre and sound and lighting design for events. The degree programme also offers studies in directing. In directing, the main focus is on managing a working group and organising a production. Artistic direction is seen as a process, which the degree programme offers skills for, but the actual qualifications are acquired through work experience and Master’s degree studies.
The basic studies undertaken by all include introduction to content, expression and production of both film and television.
The aim of the first-year studies is for the students to achieve the necessary skills needed to work as assistants in a film or television production. The content studies develop observation and ideation skills as well as the basics of scriptwriting and film expression. Project studies focus on the working processes of an audiovisual production and product management, and the students put together a fiction project.
The aim of the second-year studies is for the students to achieve the necessary skills needed to work independently on a production task. The basic studies for the second year focus on design and implementation of television shows and television journalism. During the professional studies, which begin in the spring, the students select their field of specialisation from the following: production (also contains studies in direction), cinematography, sound expression, scriptwriting and content design, theatre and event AV design.
The aim of the third-year studies is to support the development of the students’ innovative expertise. The students design and implement 1-2 development projects together with their collaborative partners.
The aim of the fourth-year studies is for the students to achieve the necessary skills needed to work as managers as well as in artistic, production and technical expertise tasks. The students carry out their final thesis work and complete any unfinished studies. The fourth year may also contain practical training, international exchange or free-choice professional studies.

BA in Media:
The focus of the programme is on interactive media content design and production. The students learn about current digital media issues, especially visual design or interaction design.
Students become professionals, who are able to work as experts, developers and entrepreneurs in the field, both in Finland and abroad.
The professional studies equip students with the skills required for demanding professional work in one or more of the following areas of application: web design and services, games, mobile media, multimedia, cross media and interactive installations.
Graduates of the Media Programme find work as Animators, Art Directors, Concept Designers, Game Artists, Graphic Designers, Project Managers, Producers, UI Designers, Web Designers and Web Programmers.
Studying in the Media Programme is typically hands-on, project-based, business-oriented, international and most often conducted in co-operation with partner enterprises.
After the first year, the students have a broad perspective on digital design, production and business and basic skills for using digital media creation tools.
During the second-year studies, the students gain skills in the selected specialisation and have a responsible role in real-life projects.
During the third year, students have their exchange period and work placement.
The most important part of the fourth year is research and project work supporting the bachelor’s thesis.
