Innsbruck, the old town

EUFCN Location Award

The old town of the city of Innsbruck - capital of Tirol – is a classic Austrian hybrid of Gothic and Baroque, which exudes a special charm and sophistication that is unique in the Alps.

It is a small area of sturdy medieval houses, many painted in lively pastel colours and supported by sloping buttresses.

The Golden Roof in the heart of the old town is Innsbruck's most famous landmark, the splendid alcove balcony gets its name from more than 2,500 fire-gilded copper tiles that adorn the roof. By visiting the city, you’ll feel as if you had taken a trip back in time to an era of knights and medieval merchants.
