Leopoldo is a reserved teacher living in Florence. After the death of his father, he discovers he has a half-brother. He is called Melchiorre but is nicknamed Gimondi. He is imprisioned in Palermo for a series of robberies. Leopoldo goes to look for him in Sicily and the two brothers travel from the south to the north of Italy in order to find their roots.
