CAMAGROGA

by Alfonso Amador

synopsis

A portrait of the unique agricultural centre la Huerta de Valencia, where tiger nuts are grown and turned into the regional drink horchata. The area is in visible decline; the remaining workers dutifully and purposefully toil in the same soil as their ancestors. Few films have dedicated themselves so completely to depicting the life of a crop, following it over the course of a year. Amador represents the farmers and their natural world paying attention to the minutiae of their labour. A luscious, generous vision, with each gesture carrying with it a heritage of autonomy, work, and resistance.
