PAVILION

by Marita Tevzadze, Ana Jegnaradze

synopsis

On a hot summer in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, a young man Nikusha sets up workshop in the Pavilion, nailing his dreams to an old building that looks like an abandoned palace in the center of the city. The Pavilion is an abandoned Soviet film studio—the historic cradle of Georgian cinema built in the 1930s. Nikusha has all the qualities to become the new king of the palace, to awaken the vast structure from more than 30 years of sleep. He is talented. He is beautiful. He is bursting with energy. He recruits a small army of friends to his vision—carpenters and metal workers, a red-hair witch and her elegant tiger cat. Outside, in a shack, an old man who once voiced many of Georgian cartoons watches over the palace’s ghosts: the night guard.
