THE CROSSING

synopsis

In a village in Bangladesh, a young couple in love. He (Jaheed) collects penny-by-penny the cash needed to go and seek his fortune abroad. She (Jasmine) will wait for him to return once he has made enough money to ask her father for her hand. After an adventurous journey Jaheed makes it to Athens. He manages to settle in. He keeps just enough of the money he earns to live on and sends the rest back home to his brother to save it in the bank as they had agreed. Two years later he is picked up by the police. He is tried and deported. When he returns home he discovers that his brother who has meanwhile married, has spent all his savings and the father of his beloved Jasmine is preparing to marry her off to someone else. The young lovers are in dire straits. Escape is the only solution. This time Jaheed and Jasmine will seek their fortune together.
