Gothenburg, Sweden 1984. Twelve-year-old Kid's world has been turned upside down. Just when she's won a prestigious essay contest and with it a dream summer job at Gothenburg Radio, her mother Ester suddenly drags her off to her home village in North Karelia, Finland. Angry and confused, Kid has no choice but to go with her. With them in the car are Ester's friend Sirkka and her thirteen-year-old son Jamppe.
