Fabrizio Polpettini • Producer
“Festivals will remain the core of distribution in the near future”
- An interview with French documentary producer Fabrizio Polpettini of La Bête, one of the participants of Jihlava's 2018 Emerging Producers
Why do you produce documentaries? Do you believe that they have the power to change the world?
Fabrizio Polpettini: I wouldn’t say that documentaries can change the world, but they can point our attention to the most interesting aspects of it, whether they are good or bad, and give us hints to better understand complex realities.
What do you think is the future of distribution of documentary films?
I think that festivals will remain the core of distribution in the near future, the more they enlarge their attendance, the more we will have a solid audience for documentaries. Curated platforms like Tenk will also play a crucial role.
What projects do you have under way?
We are currently developing the first feature documentary by Micol Roubini, an upcoming Italian filmmaker, and also a virtual reality project.
Emerging Producers is a promotional and educational project, which brings together talented European documentary film producers. The programme is organised and curated by the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival.
Deadline for applications to the Emerging Producers 2019 edition is 31 March, 2018. Click here.
