Belgium films in Venice

Belgian Screenwriter Phillippe Blasbend’s will present his directorial feature debut, Un honnête commerçant (An Honest Shopkeeper) at Critics’ Week at the 59th Venice Film Festival (August 28 - September 9). This “self-portrait of a small drug wholesaler” stars Philippe Noiret, Yolande Moreau and Benoît Verhaert and was produced by Belgium’s Artémis Production and Luxemburg’s Samsa Film with funding from various sources including the Vallon-Brussels community’s Film and Audiovisual Centre, the Wallimage Fund, RFTB and is scheduled for release in Belgium on September 11 courtesy of Cinélibre.
Other films selected for various sections of the Venetian festival include a short film, Y.U.L by Comes Chahbazian that was produced by AJC and selected for “New Territories”, Marcel Schüpbach’s feature B like Béjart scheduled for screening out of competition and Michel Vereecken’s second short film, that will take part in competition at Venice 59.
