Toronto welcomes German films

- Canada’s pre-eminent festival focuses on German productions. The selection includes this year’s winner in Locarno

Germany is sending a large contingent of films and co-productions to the forthcoming 2002 Toronto International Film Festival (September 5-14). The titles include Tom Tykwer's latest film, Heaven, starring Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi. The film recently won an award at Locarno and was selected for the Special Presentations section together with Elia Suleiman’s Franco-German-Moroccan-Palestinian Divine Intervention, first seen in Cannes earlier this year.
The list also includes this year’s winner of the German Cinema Awards, Nirgendwo in Afrika by Caroline Link while German co-productions being screened in Toronto include Aki Kaurismaki’s The Man Without a Past, Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen, Sergei Bodrov’s Bear’s Kiss and Alexander Sokurov’s Russian Ark.
