Iberians go to the pictures
Spaniards are Europe’s third most prolific filmgoers and on average, go to the cinema three or four times per year according to the 2002 edition of the Spanish Filmmakers and Editors’ Yearbook. Icelanders topped the table with an average annual attendance of 8, followed by Ireland with 4. A likely reason for this are the relatively low ticket costs – Euros 3.99 (only Portugal is cheaper with Euros3.49) significantly lower than the Euros8.85 charged by Europe’s most expensive country, Switzerland.
