Partnership in pipeline for UGC and TF1

by

A strategic occasion conducive to international film announcements, the Cannes Film Festival is being used as a sounding board for the news of an agreement, in advanced negotiations, between two leaders of the French film industry: UGC and TF1.

The two groups are indeed planning to "join forces for the acquisition of film co-production shares through a co-investment procedure, and combine their theatrical distribution activities (for France) and international negotiations of audiovisual rights, with the setting up of two joint companies."

This agreement would not include TF1’s Film Production arm, which pre-buys and co-produces French and European works due to the legal obligations for annual investment by French terrestrial TV networks.

In a press release, the two groups state that this collaboration would make it possible to "create competitive and attractive opportunities for financing and co-producing Francophone, European and international films."
