At Cannes, UK distributor Revolver Entertainment has acquired the Sundance hit Sin Nombre by newcomer Cary Joji Fukunaga, along with three other titles. The film is sold by Focus Features International.

The Sin Nombre acquisition announced yesterday by Revolver Managing Director Justin Marciano and Peter Kujawski, Senior Vice President at Focus Features, marks the first collaboration between the two companies. “We’re excited to be embarking on a new relationship with Focus for the simple reason that they have an exceptional reputation for delivering truly special films,” said Marciano.

The film follows a beautiful Honduran woman seeking the promise of America. Along the way she meets a Mexican gang member struggling to outrun his past towards a new life. Revolver expects to release the film across the UK and Ireland in August.

Revolver has also acquired Red Mist, the new Irish film by Paddy Breathnach (I Went Down), produced by Belfast-based Generator Entertainment; and Big Cats by Christian James (Freak Out), a dark comedy from Ailie Smith and Richard Kerrigan’s production company Nailgun Ltd.

The fourth Cannes pick-up is Jason Stutter’s Diagnosis: Death from the comic team behind The Flight of the Conchords, Bret McKenzie, Rhys Darby, Jemaine Clement and Raybon Kan. The film was sold by Australian production and sales company Odin’s Eye Entertainment.
