Paper Castles inflames Latido sales

Salvador Garcia Ruiz’s erotic drama Paper Castles have brought regular traffic at Latido Film Sales Riviera stand in Cannes.

The film based on the new bestseller by Almudena Grandes (The Ages of Lulu) was sold to Greece (Seven Distribution), Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan. The romantic triangle will have a wide released in Spain through Alta Classics in November.

by Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes, Spain’s top grosser in 2009 with over 800,000 admissions, was sold to 23 territories including Japan, Korea, the US (Picture This), the UK (G2) and Greece (Art Free).

The market premiere of the Dance documentary Bejart - The Show Must Go On from the producers of The Chicken, the Fish and the King Crab was snatched by Japan (Cetera) and was in negotiations with France.

Managing director Massimo Saidel was pleased with the market, although buyers are “more cautious than ever”. “It’s almost as if they were buying, but reluctantly, and all excuses are good for them not to buy!

Saidel was also very confident about the thriller Guts by Samuel Martín and Martin Luque, produced by Zebra Film. “The film is very much like Fargo,” said the sales agent. The sales executive was confident the film would soon be picked up by an A festival.
