Co-written by the directors, Rendez-vous avec un ange analyses a couple’s relationship. Judith (Carré) is a dedicated nurse who works on a cancer ward, where the help given to terminally ill patients poses moral dilemmas for her. Roland (López) sells hi-fi systems in a specialised shop, but his main passion is opera, an interest that invades their married life and leaves little space for Judith.

The couple gradually drift apart. Then Judith loses her job at the hospital and their lives are turned upside down.

As a screenwriter, Thomas’ filmography includes Patricia Mazuy’s Travolta et Moi (“Travolta and I”) and The King’s Daughters. In 2000, he and Daruvar co-directed the short Noire la vie.

Produced by Dominique Besnehard and Michel Feller for Mon Voisin Productions, Rendez-vous avec un ange has a €2.9m budget. This includes co-production support from Arte France Cinéma, an advance on receipts from the National Film Centre (CNC), as well as pre-sales from Canal +, Ciné Cinéma and TV5 Monde.

The eight-week shoot will take place mainly in the Paris region. Domestic distribution will be handled by Océan Films, while international sales are still under negotiation.
