Spotlight on screenplays in Warsaw

by

Communication between screenwriters and producers, differences across Europe in terms of film development and screenwriter training are among the many themes to be discussed at the Script Forum. The event is organised from July 7-11 as part of the 15th Lato Filmów festival, which will kick off in Warsaw on Sunday.

These professional meetings will include conferences, seminars and debates open to all participants, a series of workshops reserved for limited groups and the second Polish screenwriters’ forum.

According to organisers, Script Forum offers screenwriters the opportunity to improve their skills and supplement their training by tackling subjects not covered at film school. The topics participants are most interested in are genre cinema, development, adaptations, the art of drawing inspiration from reality and market expectations.

Each day of the event will close with a meeting with a writer or dramatist. Guests include James Ragan, Robin Mukherjee, David Kavanagh, Andrzej Saramonowicz, Robert Gliński, Krzysztof Zanussi, Joanna Kos-Krauze, Krzysztof Krauze and Irena Strzałkowska.

The Script Forum will be accompanied by the publication of a catalogue of Polish screenwriters, to be brought out in the next few days. For the first time, there will also be a "fair" dedicated to new screenplays, which producers will be able to discover without the presence of a middleman.

The second Polish screenwriters’ forum, organised in co-operation with the SFP (Polish Filmmakers Association), aims to provide a platform for discussion about the current state of Polish screenplays, as well as the situation and main difficulties faced by the sector.
