film profile] has been hired by UK moguls Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan from Working Title to direct Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, based on John Le Carré’s best-selling novel about the Cold War.

Alfredson’s first English-language film will be adapted for the screen by Peter Morgan, Academy Award nominated in 2006 for The Queen [+see also:

film profile] and in 2008 for Frost/Nixon, produced by Working Title.

“The timing is right for a new screen version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy so it’s great for us to be able to continue our creative collaboration with Peter Morgan on this and to have Tomas on board who we’ve no doubt will bring a unique vision to the material,” said Bevan. “Tomas is one of the most sought after and gifted directors in the industry at the moment and we’re really forward to working with him on such an exciting project.”

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the story of a former British intelligence officer who is brought out of retirement to track down a mole in the agency. The film set to start shooting in 2010 will be executive produced by Debra Hayward, Liza Chasin, John Le Carré and Peter Morgan.

Alfredson’s vampire film Let the Right One In was the biggest Swedish export in 2008 and received rave reviews in the UK press when it was released theatrically last April by Momentum Pictures.
