Strong German presence at Locarno 2009

The 62nd Locarno International Film Festival (August 5-15) will host 21 German (co)productions.
In Official Competition are Filippos Tsitos’ Akadimi Platinos (Greece/Germany) and Xiaolu Guo’s UK/French/German co-production She, A Chinese.
No less than three German films will have their international premiere on the Piazza Grande: Detlev Buck’s Same Same But Different, Ludi Boeken’s Among Peasants and Byambasuren Davaa’s The Two Horses of Genghis Khan, as well as the international co-production First Squad: The Moment of Truth by Aljoscha Klimov, Misha Shprits and Yoshiharu Ashino.
The Turkish/German co-production Men on the Bridge by Asli Oezge will screen in the competitive sidebar section Filmmakers of the Present, Hiner Saleem’s Après La Chute (France/Germany) will be seen in Here & Elsewhere and Critics’ Week will feature Lilian Franck and Robert Cibis’ documentary Pianomania.
The shorts Edgar by Fabian Busch and Kokon by Till Kleinert can be seen in the Leopards of Tomorrow International Competition.
Open Doors will be presenting Li Ying’s Mang Jing (Hong Kong/Germany).
The Appellations Suisse sidebar will screen the Swiss/German co-productions Loud Inside by Vincent Pluss, The Woman with the 5 Elephants by Vadim Jendreyko, Isa Hesse-Rabinovitch: The Movie Game by Anka Schmid and Swiss/German/Austrian title Tandoori Love [+see also:

Actress Nina Hoss (Yella [+see also:

film profile]) will be a member of the festival’s International Jury, director Angela Schanelec (Afternoon) of the Filmmakers of the Present jury, and Maike Mia Hoehne, curator of the Berlinale Shorts, of the Leopards of Tomorrow jury.
The German-international co-production Pomegranates and Myrrh by Najwa Najjar will also be shown at the festival.
