Record summer admissions

Almost three million cinema tickets were sold in Denmark during the summer, up 3% from the record figures registered during the same period in 2008. The market share for Danish films was the highest since 2005 at 20%.

This summer, like the previous summer, five Danish films opened between early July and mid-August, a proof that Danish exhibitors and distributors are getting more confident with summer releases and the higher number of Hollywood films on offer. The biggest Danish summer hit was the comedy Sorte Kugler, the feature debut by comedian-actor- director Anders Matthesen. The film produced by Nimbus Film sold almost 400,000 tickets. attracted 53,000 people during that period; Hella Joof’s Hush Little Baby [+see also:

had 44,000 admissions, Christian E Christiansen’s family film Zoomerne 40,000 and Morten Giese’s thriller Love & Rage around 20,000.

Rumle Hammerich’s new thriller Headhunter released last weekend is now number one at the local charts with over 26,000 admissions from 79 screens for Nordisk Film, ahead of Inglourious Basterds [+see also:

. The film received rave reviews in the Danish press and was described as ‘classic thriller material’. Åke Sandgren produced it for Nordisk Film and sales are handled by TrustNordisk.
