Max Manus joins hopefuls

Norway’s box office champion Max Manus [+see also:

, directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, has been submitted by the Norwegian Oscar committee for the Academy Award nominations for Best Foreign Language Film.

The WW2 epic has sold over 1.1 million admissions in Norway, making it the biggest Norwegian hit on the domestic market since 1975. It won seven local Amanda Awards last August, including Best Film and Best Actor (Aksel Hennie), and has been sold to over 30 territories by TrustNordisk.

Max Manus was produced by Filmkameratene in co-production with B&T Film (Germany) and Miso Film (Denmark).

The Academy Awards nominations will be announced on February 2, 2010 and the 82nd awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 7.
