Nohrborg from Triangel to St Paul

by

Mattias Nohrborg, the former head of Triangel Film and the arthouse cinema chain Astoria, has joined the Swedish production company St Paul Film as Senior Advisor, on a part-time basis.

For over two decades, since Triangel’s founding in 1988, Nohrborg has played a key role in broadening film culture and introducing European filmmakers to Sweden, among others Emir Kusturica, Michael Haneke, Mike Leigh and François Ozon. He also produced or co-produced several Swedish films, including Björn Runge’s Daybreak.

His arthouse empire collapsed in 2007, dragged down by Nohrborg’s unfortunate venture into exhibition with Astoria cinemas. But his unquestionable knowledge of quality film and the international marketplace convinced St Paul Film co-founders, producers Johannes Åhlund and Fredrik Heinig, to take him on board. “We felt we needed extra support to maximise the potential of our films, in Sweden and perhaps even more in the rest of the world,” said the producers in a statement.

St Paul Film has two major features in post-production. Bad Faith (Ond Tro) by Kristian Petri is a romantic thriller featuring Danish star Sonja Richter, Sweden’s Jonas Karlssand Norway’s Kristoffer Joner. The film about a Danish woman who becomes obsessed with a serial killer is based on a script by renowned playwright Magnus Dahlström. The Swedish debut is scheduled for March 2010.
