14 Spanish co-productions receive Ibermedia funding

The Ibermedia programme, the Latin American fund created in 1997 to promote co-productions, has announced the results of its second funding competition. Forty-one projects have been selected for funding, including 14 Spanish co-productions.

Five of these are helmed by Spanish companies: El Rey del Mundo (“The King of the World”), by Utopía Global, in co-production with Brazil’s Raiz Produções; La Mitad de Oscar (“Half of Oscar”), by La Loma Blanca Producciones and 14 Pies Audiovisual in co-production with Cuba’s ICAIC; Paco Cabezas’ eagerly-awaited new work Neon Flesh, by Morena Films, Oberón Cinematográfica and Jaleo Films, in co-production with Argentina’s Pensa & Rocca, France’s Mandarin Cinema and Sweden’s Hepp Film; the documentary Voices From Mozambique, by Bausan Films, in co-production with Portuguese company LX Filmes; and Valeria Descalza (“Barefoot Valeria”), by Sendeja Films, in co-production with Cuba’s ICAIC.

The other nine projects were presented by companies from other countries. They include two Argentinean projects (Las Puertas de los Cuarteles, co-produced by Quimera Films, and Las Acacias, co-produced by Armónica Entertainment); two Colombian films (Porfirio, co-produced by Carmelita Films, and El Gancho, co-produced by Never land); three Mexican films (El Baile de San Juan, co-produced by Iroko Films, Marcelo Tolces’ debut work 18 and a Half Cigarettes, co-produced by Tornasol Films, and Arturo Ripstein’s Las Razones del Corazón, co-produced by Wanda Visión); one Portuguese project (Embargo, co-produced by Vaca Films); and a Puerto Rican title (Las Carpetas, co-produced by El Viaje Producciones).
