- The Polish director at gala and a month-long retrospective at the Palais des Beaux Arts for the release of The Pianist

Roman Polanski, winner of this year’s Palme d’Or at the 55th Cannes Film Festival this year for The Pianist, is the guest of honour at a special gala screening of this film scheduled to take place at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels on 20 September. The event is organised by Cinéart who will distribute the film in Belgian theatres from 25 September.
The premiere gave the Belgian Film Library the perfect opportunity to stage a month-long retrospective of the Polish-born director’s body of work featuring early films like Repulsion (1964), Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974) and Tess (1979) and Polanski’s later work like Frantic (1988), Pirates (1986), Bitter Moon (1992) and The Ninth Gate (1999). Filmgoers will also have a rare chance to the short films that Polanski made between 1958 and 1962 including Deux hommes et une armoire and can also visit an exhibition of backstage photos taken by Guy Ferrandis on the set of The Pianist.
