by

Forty-five directors, screenwriters, producers, actors and production designers have formed a company that will produce 22, low-low budget films, under the laconic name 22film. Names of members of a collective response to the government policies against Italian culture include Marco Bellocchio, Pasquale Scimeca, Ugo Gregoretti, Citto Maselli, Grazia Volpi, Wilma Labate, Enzo Porcelli, Pasquale Pozzessere, Marco Puccioni and Marco Pozzi.

The feature films, which will be shot in digital and distributed only in digital, will have budgets that will not exceed €400,000. Already in contact with private and public investors to fund the project, above all several Italian Regions, the company will launch subscription in an open account of an ethical bank. There are two forms of contribution: donations (perhaps with the pre-acquisition of tickets) and sponsorization (that can also take advantage of the recently implemented tax measures in Italy).

The production of films will involve, in various forms, many young film professionals just starting out, as well as students, through participation in screenplays and workshops. The group says: "It is a cultural as well as production project. Our ambition is show the country as it’s never been shown. Low budgets push you to explore very diverse microcosms".
