There have been persistent rumours in recent weeks that Allen would like to cast French first lady Carla Bruni in his Parisian film, which doesn’t yet have a title but has backing from France’s National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) - see news.

Over seven weeks last summer, the US director shot You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger in London. Little is known about the film’s plot, beyond the fact it centres on a family and the complicated love affairs of its members.

As usual for an Allen film, it has an all-star cast, led by Spain’s Antonio Banderas, UK actors Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Gemma Jones and Lucy Punch, US thesp Josh Brolin and India’s Freida Pinto.

Spanish international seller Imagina International Sales will handle sales of the film in all territories except the USA and Spain.

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is expected to be released theatrically this autumn and may screen at one of this year’s film events. It’s difficult to predict which one, given that Allen is not usually loyal to one particular festival – in recent years he has alternated between Venice (The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, 2001; Anything Else, 2003; Cassandra’s Dream [+see also:

, 2007) and Cannes (Hollywood Ending, 2002; Match Point [+see also:

, 2005; Vicky Cristina Barcelona, 2008), with sporadic appearances at San Sebastian (Melinda and Melinda, 2004) and Tribeca (Whatever Works, 2009).
